Rory Hutton X The Royal Ballet: Dame Margot Fonteyn’s Centenary

I am overjoyed to be involved with this special project, Margot Fonteyn is the epitome of elegance, it was a joy to learn about her incredible life and she has left a lasting impression on me.
One of Fonteyn’s quotes which really inspired me was ‘I explained it when I danced it,’ this simple line beautifully sums up what dance meant to her and the importance it holds as a form of self expression. I've used this quote on several of the scarves and I hope it will strike a cord with dancers everywhere!
The collection consists of six unique silk scarves reminiscent of souvenir scarves popular in the 1950s and 60s. Delicate feminine colours reminicent of The Festival of Britain are given a contemporary edge with my signature lino print illustrations. The boarders of the scarves are suffused with images of swans, camellias and stars symbolising some of Fonteyn's most celebrated roles.
I have also illustrated the ornate stage curtains from the Royal Opera House in lino print and created a group of well dressed audience members to sit in the boarders awaiting the drama that is about to unfold...
The Complete range is available from the Royal Opera House Shop and an edited range can be found online here.
