Celebrated for her explosions of colour in the garden, Gertrude Jekyll was the Arts & Crafts gardener of choice, often collaborating with distinguished architect Edwin Lutyens; together they created some of the most fashionable country homes and gardens of their day.
This colourful design draws inspiration from the borders Jekyll created and features many of her favorite flowers including peony roses, delphiniums, pansies and geraniums.
The garden bench at the center of the scarf is in a style favored by Lutyens and he designed many versions of this bench for Jekyll’s gardens.
Jekyll had a love of cats and even included a chapter titled ‘Pussies in the Garden’ in her book Children and Gardens published in 1908. Her cat Thomas can be seen sitting on Lutyens' bench at the center of this scarf.
