A celebration of the beautiful interiors and objects of the Aesthetic and Arts & Crafts movements, this silk scarf brings together the ideas of William Morris, Oscar Wilde and the remarkable circle of artists and designers who transformed the Victorian home.

At the heart of the design is William Morris’s famous maxim, “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”, an idea frequently echoed by Oscar Wilde in his lectures on art and decoration.

Surrounding it is a collection of objects associated with the Aesthetic interior: Philip Webb’s Sussex chair, Chinese-style vases filled with sunflowers, decorative ceramics and other emblems of the period. Pomegranates and mistletoe form an intricate border, completing a design inspired by the late nineteenth-century pursuit of beauty in everyday life.

Originally created by Rory Hutton and translated onto silk, the design combines historical storytelling with a bold, graphic quality that makes it as striking worn as it is unfolded.
