A celebration of the horse and the traditions of equestrian life, In The Saddle brings together racing, riding and the treasured objects of the stable in a richly detailed silk scarf.
At the centre sits a hand-carved portrait of a beloved horse, framed like a painting and surrounded by trophies, prize rosettes, riding crops, boots and snaffle bits. Around the border, racehorses and jockeys charge towards the finish line, while the words “No hour of life is lost that is spent in the saddle” encircle the design.
Rendered in deep racing green and warm neutral tones, each element was originally drawn, carved and printed by hand as a linocut before being brought together in the finished composition and translated onto silk in Italy.
