“Beauty is truth, truth beauty…”
John Keats, Ode on a Grecian Urn
Inspired by John Keats’s Ode on a Grecian Urn, this silk scarf explores the poet’s fascination with beauty, art and the strange immortality of images.
At its centre sits a great classical urn, populated by figures, garlands and a lyre, while layers of ornament draw upon the decorative language of the ancient world. Like the figures on Keats’s imagined urn, they remain caught forever in a single moment.
The design was originally created for ARTVERSE, Rory Hutton’s 2026 exhibition exploring the meeting point between poetry and visual art. Each element began as a hand-carved linocut before being assembled into the finished composition, printed in shades of blue and ochre gold.
