A grand celebration of the historic English garden, Stately Garden brings together the architecture, ornament and rituals of gardening in a generously proportioned silk shawl.
The design is filled with hand-carved linocut illustrations inspired by the great country house garden: antique garden tools, potted sunflowers, clipped bay trees and pineapples sit alongside a dovecote and sundial. A pair of gardeners dressed in eighteenth-century style complete the scene, surrounded by the implements and ornaments of a garden carefully tended over generations.
Each element was originally drawn, carved and printed by hand before being brought together to create the finished design and translated onto silk in Italy.
At 145cm square, the generous scale allows the design to be worn as a dramatic shawl over the shoulders, loosely draped around the neck or folded into a substantial scarf.
