An ode to Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, Temple of Flora celebrates the joyful abundance of the garden at the height of its bloom.
At the centre of the design, Flora stands holding a garland of flowers within a classical temple, surrounded by formal parterres and knot gardens edged with scrolling ironwork. Beyond them, the borders overflow with flowering specimens in vibrant shades of red and pink, inspired by the colours of roses.
Look more closely and the garden reveals a host of smaller details: a dovecote, birdbath, potted orange tree, sundial and elegant tulipières. In front of Flora’s temple sits the gardener’s dog beside an abandoned sun hat and watering can, suggesting that someone has momentarily slipped away from their work in the garden.
Originally created as part of my Garden Collection, the design began as a series of hand-carved linocuts before being translated onto silk and made in Italy.
