“She had three lilies in her hand”
Dante Gabriel Rossetti, The Blessed Damozel

Inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s poem The Blessed Damozel, this silk scarf draws upon the rich imagery of Rossetti’s Pre-Raphaelite world.

Monumental white lilies sweep across a deep green ground of repeating Gothic arches and stars, combining the natural and architectural imagery that runs through Rossetti’s poem. The design began with Rory Hutton’s original drawings, which were hand-carved into lino before being developed into the finished silk scarf.

Created for ARTVERSE, Rory Hutton and Dan Llewelyn Hall’s 2026 exhibition exploring the relationship between poetry and visual art, the scarf translates Rossetti’s dreamlike vision of love, beauty and longing into silk.
